Could you please tell me the projected time when it will reach seacrest beach, It is hard to find information on Seacrest. Thank you for your time. Julie

    • admin says:

No reports on reaching seacrest it is to the east of Destin so it would hit here first we have an office there and a friend of mine walks the beach there for exercise everyday he will tell me if it changes

  2. Jamey says:

We are arriving at Mirimar on saturday for a week, are we going to be oil free all week? Also can you smell the oil while at the beach?

I really appreciate you taking the time to make this website. We vacation in Destin every year and are really looking forward to this year.

    Thanks

  3. Dstandridge says:

we have plans to vacation in Destin during 1st wk of july. Do you think it is highly probable that the oil will get to destin by this time?

    • admin says:

I would love to say no but not sure that far out I will keep the updates coming but the summer winds should keep us safe for awhile but until the cap it we can tell as of now it doesnt seem like it will come here as of now

  4. Mjke says:

According to this map the oil is to the west of Destin.

  5. Sandy Giese says:

We are planning to arrive July 3–please keep us posted as this is so helpful to us!

  6. jlowe says:

We are planning to be vacation in Seaside, Florida from June 19-26. Not sure whether to cancel vacation or continue…Is it estimated that the oil will reach this area within this time? Thank you!

    • admin says:

No forcast predict it coming anywhere near seaside it is moving west and seaside is still east of destin you have a good window to come in

  7. stan argo says:

Even if the beaches continue to be the best in the world, the misleading national news are causing a negative perception by their failure to report specific geographic conditions. Please give them daily videos showing the destin to sandestin conditions.

  8. stan argo says:

Thank you all for this most informative website. Its the only one I use

  9. spanic28 says:

I’ve been checking this site regularly. I’m planning to go to Destin at the end of July to the beginning of Aug. Should I cancel and start making other arrangements?

  10. Lisa says:

We are planning to be in Destin July 3-10th. Do you think it would be best for us to move our reservations futher east such as Seaside or Panama City?

    • admin says:

Seaside and Panama City are farther east and it might be a good idea not sure what the conditions will be in july but if we are effect they might as well

  11. posies98 says:

we are heading to san destin aug 14. i know there are a lot of factors and things that can happen between now and then but i would love your feedback on thoughts for that time. will oil well be complete? should most oil be cleaned up? im calling “my vacation haven” today to see if we can have at minimum another 30 days before paying in full…hopefully they understand.

    • admin says:

Aug is just to far out to predict I am sorry for being vague but wee really are on a week to week basis to give accurate info

  12. Jes says:

Will Destin close the beaches if oil appears on them?..

    • admin says:

There is a chance they will close the beach if large amounts come on the beach there are 2 things
tarballs that they reffer to as weathered oil
then there is the sludge type
right now we have had neither they will close the beach if oil is spotted and notify clean up crews

  13. posies98 says:

Thanks for addressing. I figured August was too far out to predict. Understandably. :) Fortunately “My Vacation Haven” is giving its customers 30 days prior to arrival to pay full balance, as opposed to 60 days. That at least buys us a little more time. :)

  14. Charles says:

Thank you very much for your updates. The information we get here is much better than any media out there. I appreciate all your hard work, you will be the eyes and ears for many visitors over the coming weeks. I am sure I can speak for a great number of people in giving sincere thanks for all your efforts.

  15. Robin Ramsey says:

We are suppose to leave this Friday to head to Destin. I am hearing reports that the oil spill has hit Mirmar Beach. Is there any truth to that and what is the oil forecast looking like for next week? Thank you

  16. Robin says:

Okay. Thanks. How is the forecast looking for next week?

  17. spanic28 says:

Much thanks and appreciation to all of you on this site. I check this daily and love that I get the “Real” information from people actually there. My trip for the end of July is still on and am keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you for all your hard work!

  18. Andy says:

This site is the best resource I have come across to track the activity at the beaches. Looks like the winds have been favorable and the oil has moved away from Florida. Destin and the Beaches of South Walton are unaffected and may be for some time to come. Keep an eye on the winds and tides.

  19. C. Haley says:

We have vacation planned July 3rd – July17th. We love Destin and will come no matter what the oil situation is. I read this morning that they found over 100 Tar Balls on the beach. Can you give us an update or the locals’ opinion on what they are expecting from the oil spill once it reaches Destin. Will it be as bad as it is in the Gulf Shores?

    • admin says:

The info i recieve seems to be reliable so far i cant state sources due to there employment but it will most likely be weathered oil and tarballs the section they found was on about 100 feet of beach out ion santa rosa sound and they have already cleaned it the epa has been one site. Locals opinion is it is a week to week thing right now it is out of range for Destin area but we are planning on it coming towards our area more

  20. Chris says:

This has been a great website for information. Can you tell your webmasters that the placement of the google ads to the right of the interactive map blocks your ability to see the oil spill as it relates to the Destin Area.

    • admin says:

Thanks for letting me know we just put it up to try to cover cost this blog grown a little more than i thought it would

  21. Denny says:

Thank you for the updates and information. We greatly appreciate your unbiased reporting provided here. We are planning on coming to Destin for our family vacation this Saturday 6/19. The reports we are seeing are making us all very nervous. Looking forward to your next report.

  22. Susan says:

” Locals opinion is it is a week to week thing right now it is out of range for Destin area but we are planning on it coming towards our area more ”

what do you mean by *out of range for Destin*? Does that mean you really think Destin might be spared for a while longer?

  23. Bonnie Hall says:

Keep this wonderful site up and running. Seaside/Seagrove hang in there. We are still coming 6/24. Elizabeth Whitehouse here we come.

  24. thanks !! very helpful post!

  25. Ashley says:

We are set to vacation in Destin July 3-July 10th… I have been watching your website-thanks. But so I can be more certain of our particular area, can you tell me what the name of the beach is right outside of the Crab Trap on Old Scenic 98 E? We will be staying right across the street. Thanks

  26. Patrick says:

We are staying in Watercolor June 25-July 2nd. My kids first time to Florida. They want to swim in clear water. What is the best guess as to if the water will be open to swimming?

    • admin says:

I would say open watercolor is to the east and the beachside pool and cabanas are the best on the Emerald COast

  27. Josh says:

Awesome website! Been monitor Destin with your site for several weeks. Will be there Saturday (6/19) to enjoy the beach. Keep this site going it has been very helpful to keep me destined for Destin instead of pulling my reservations at the condo. Thanks!

  28. Kim says:

My family is coming to miramar beach on July 3-10. Any idea about the projection for that area for the next few weeks? Should we be concerned?

Great website. Thanks for taking the time to keep all us out of towners updated.

  29. posies98 says:

Thank you SO much for this wonderful web site full of REAL information! It has helped us to KEEP our reservation for August in Sandestin instead of going into panic based on media coverage and cancelling! Keep up the great work. Our family and I’m sure, many others, very much appreciate all you are doing. Praying for y’all!!!

  30. dustin says:

We are vacationing in destin from june 26 to july 2, I am just curious if the oil is going to hit. Iii’ve heard rumors today the 18th that they will be closing the beaches down their in Destin. Its hard to find websites that just straigt up tell if it’s going to hit or not. Thank you for your time.

    • admin says:

there is no plan to close the beach if the tarballs come in the might block of the area it came to but there is no plan to close alll the beaches of destin we the news reports beach closed it might be 100ft out 15 miles. Okaloosa island they closed 2 mile strip then reopend next day

  31. Great info! I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don

  32. Jessicak says:

It’s fine if you don’t post this comment…it’s really just for you(admin.)
Just a little note…I really like your site and your updates but please pay
more attention to your writing. Sometimes I can hardly understand a comment
that admin posts due to either bad grammar or the absence of commas and periods, and/or just plain spelling errors. I’m don’t want to be critical at all. I can only imagine the hours your putting in to give the updates, I just wanted to give some feedback. Thanks for your hard work!

  33. Jennifer says:

We were planning a visit for August 16.. Is that still possible or will it definitely be in destin by then ?

  34. Jennifer says:

Ok .. thanks ! This is the most helpful site yet!

  35. Tim says:

We will be coming the week of July 24-31. Thanks to this website, I have not panicked and have used this site to help my wife to stop watching CNN, Fox, etc who only show the “scary” videos. They never mention that the balls are picked up in an hour and the beaches get opened back up quickly.

Praying for the best and coming either way. I can’t wait. And by the way, we’re staying at The Beach Resort on Scenic 98 just down from the Whales Tale. in Miramar!!!!!

  36. James Motes says:

Coming down to Destin July 3rd-10th. We are planning on taking a Dolphin Cruise, if a sighting of oil is seen will it effect the cruise. Do you even think its a good idea to keep our vacation booked since there has been news about oil being seen in Destin beaches?

    • Mike says:

as of now keep them we are doing good if that changes i will post but i do talk to boats that are out looking

  37. Dave says:

Excellent website – thanks for all of your work keeping it updated. We are supposed to be coming in this Friday (Jun 25) to the Fort Walton Beach Hampton Inn. How are things expected to be in that area this weekend?

  38. Maggie says:

We have reservations at Silver dunes for July 3rd thru 10. It sounds like what the worst would be by then is they close the beach for a day to clean up and then it opens up until more oil comes in. Is that correct, or am I wishful thinking. We love coming to Destin and want to come this year too. thank you. What a great website.

    • Mike says:

I think you are right it seems the weather is holding for us and silver dunes is a couple of blocks from the back porch which we videoed

  39. Brittany Smith says:

I was at the beach behind Pompano Joes today on Crystal Beach in Destin! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! the water was crystal clear with hardly any June grass! no oil or tarballs anywhere insight! snorkelers and swimmers everywhere having a great time!

  41. Beth says:

This is our fourth day on Holiday Isle. No tar balls or smell. Just a little seaweed. Absolutely beautiful!

  42. Beth says:

This is our fourth day on Holiday Isle…no tarballs or smell, just some seaweed, but still absolutely beautiful….

  43. James Motes says:
