Destin Beach Update in Destin near The Crab Trap. The beach was great with sunny sky and temperates around 70degrees. Great day to go out and enjoy the beach and walk in the sun. With spring here the water is starting to warm back up and make a day at the beach in Destin even more enjoyable.

Remeber to be safe at the beach while in Destin.

This weekend a boy and his father swimming near the Majestic Sun Condominiums in Miramar beach were pushed away from shore. Thanks to two Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the quick response of a nearby surfer, the boy and his father were pulled back to shore. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

While at the beach visitors are encouraged to watch the beach flag warning system. The different color flags warn beach goers about the overall surf conditions. These flags are usually a good guide to know what to expect while in the water. The flag warning system uses four colors.

GREEN: LOW HAZARD – Calm Condition, Exercise Caution
YELLOW: MEDIUM HAZARD – Moderate Surf and/or Moderate Currents
RED: HIGH HAZARD – High Surf and/or Strong Currents
DOUBLE RED: WATER CLOSED TO PUBLIC
PURPLE: Marine Pests Present

The Destin oil spill effects appear to have cleared up for the most part in Destin and Walton County. When visiting the beaches, you will likely not know the oil was here. After storms you might find small weathered tar balls if you look hard enough. Some oil is in the sand and although you don’t really see it Bp still has small crews in the area looking after the beaches.

On 12-16-10 water testing along the Emerald Coast: Panama City, Blue Mountain Beach, Miramar Beach, Okaloosa Pier: have come back Non-Detect. Walton County Health Department, in coordination with Walton County Officials, rescinded all Oil Impact Notices posted on all Walton County beaches. Oil Impact Notice signs were taken down August 13, 2010, barring any severe weather in the area. The rescission is based on the following information:
Since early July, no significant beach oiling events have been reported to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The FDEP has conducted sampling of water and sediment (sand)

The dispersant testing results for 12-16 have come back Non-detect.

Miramar Beach, Florida on 8-17. Great weather with a breeze made it a good day in the sun and even better in the water. June-grass has cleared and the water looked great with good sized waves and people on the beach today was a nice day in the sun.

Crystal Beach on 8-17. The water was great today with no june-grass and good sized waves a good day for boogie boarding. Sunny day and plenty of people out enjoying the water, good day on the beach.

Destin Beach on 8-4 water looked great but still dense patches of june grass along the shore but once away from the june grass the water looks great and plenty of people were swimming and on the beach enjoying the sun.
