Could you please give me an update on the beach in fort walton. We are coming from Kentucky on Friday to stay at the Bella Riva in Fort Walton. I would like to know what the beaches look like there and if there is any more signs of tar balls there. Thanks for you help.

    • Mike says:

According to the Google Oil Spill map (http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/oilspill/), it looks like the oil is hitting Seaside and Seagrove Beach today. Can you confirm for us? We are headed there this weekend. Thank you so much for working so hard to provide coverage. It is very much appreciated.

We just video it will take a few hours to get back and post it but it is clear the june grass will be there tommorrow and the next day but should pass soon. there might be a few small tarballs on the beach but nothing we could find

Thank you so much for all this eyewitness information. I’m afraid this
is a stupid question, but want to ask anyway! I understand the tarballs coming
onshore in scattered places, but I am wondering about swimmers. Are people that are swimming noticing any effects in the water? I know there are no “formal” state
health advisories about swimming. Just wondering what people are experiencing.
I love the beach AND the water! Thanks!

Thanks so much for posting these videos and making this website. We have reservations to come to Destin in late July and are concerned about oil but this site makes us feel a whole lot better!

Would really love to know how it’s looking in front of Summer Place on Okaloosa Island! Thank you in advance.

I am in Destin at the SummerPlace Inn and just went to the beach today with my family with NO complaints. The sea grass wasn’t bad at all and I was in the water for over an hour and enjoyed every minute of it. Destin is ready and open for business.

Our family vacation is scheduled for the last week of July on Okaloosa Island. I have enjoyed the information of this site and I know nobody can predict when oil will/will not come along with the smell. Any thoughts or indications though as we need to decide whether or not to cancel our vacation spot. We love it here, about a 10 minute walk to the pier, and truly hope that everything will still be good in July. Thanks for this site and any updates you can pass along.

    Hi,
I am wondering what impact the oil has made on Seagrove Beach. We are scheduled to arrive July 24.

    Thanks

Hi! Thank you so much for this website. Because of your website, we did NOT cancel our family vacation! I have been checking this website DAILY for the past month. My friends had all warned me of what the media has been saying and I’m so glad I didn’t listen! We just got back from the beautiful area of Santa Rosa Beach and we had a wonderful week-long vacation there! The beaches are GORGEOUS, as usual! NO OIL! I’ll tell you what we DID have, instead of oil, and that was HUGE WAVES! Wow! They were incredible! We felt like we were in Hawaii or something! In fact, the riptide/current was sooo strong, it felt like we got a workout just riding those waves! Absolutely NO OIL and we went to Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Panama City Beach, and Shell Island too. Not a tarball, tarchip, oil smell…NOTHING for six of the seven days we were there. On Wednesday, there was a foamy sheen across the waves way out near the farthest breakers but that didn’t affect us in any way at all. I’m not sure if it was even oil because it was just foamy and not sludgy looking. There are TONS of workers out on the beach, constantly scanning for any sign of tar. They sure weren’t very busy though because the tar wasn’t there. This is all media-hype, as far as we could tell. We almost canceled our trip and that would have been terrible. I would suggest that anyone going down to the area, go ahead and enjoy yourselves! It’s great! Stores are having major clearance sales for all you shoppers out there! Restaurants need our business, too! Enjoyed delicious meals out and even enjoyed the meals we fixed ourselves from things we purchased at our favorite Florida grocery store! The people that live in the Destin area are always so considerate, kind, and endearing to us. I applaud their patience in all this mess. From the servers to the cashiers to the lifeguards…they are all so great! So to any future vacationers out there, please don’t cancel your trips! We had so much fun and we WILL be back again next year!

  11. This is an extremely great site you have going here. The matter is very informative and straight to the point. Excited to read more about your blog next time.
