The beaches look good. We are coming to in the first week of august. Is the sentiment that everyone there now has dodged a bullett and it is coming? Are they expecting the worse to come? Just trying to decide if we need to switch locations.

    Thanks
    Brian

We are checking into the Destin B&G Resort the week of July 4th….just a question you may know to help me understand because this is our first time staying here. Not an oil question but I noticed that all the rented umbrellas and chairs are not directly on the water at Destin B&G. Do you know if there is a reason for this? We normally stay at Sterling Shores and they put the umbrellas and chairs right on the water. Please let me know if you know.

    Thanks!

We are heading that way on July 24th… Is there even a guess as to when they think the oil will hit?

Thank you so much for the update. It would be nice if someone provided this type of information daily for the Sandestin area.

In response to Beach Bum’s question. It is probably because there is a lot of foot traffic that goes up and down the beach. It would be a mess if people had to step over people parked right at the water line.

  6. Thanks for the video update on the beach of Sandestin. We have been coming for years, and are coming this year the end of July. It was good to see the water and beach looking just like we left it. Keep the updates coming!

We are staying at Topsl this week. Thanks so much for your updates. If not for them, we would have cancelled and missed the beautiful day at the beach that we had yesterday. The only impact we have noticed is the lack of gulls. We haven’t seen any tarballs or smelt any oil. We have seen larger sea life in a bit closer than nornal.

Thanks for your video. We are supposed to go this Thursday (24th) and all last minute information is greatly appreciated!!!! We sure hope that the beach stays open.

Thanks PGourley… Just curious as to why they did the set up so far off the water when other resorts are right on the water. I just hope we are able to still enjoy the water but its just too far to tell.

In response to Beach Bum…that part of the beach at the water is actually a public right of way and the resort can’t put their chairs there, but if you were to bring your own chair and umbrella you as the public could set up right on the water. We were there the first week of June and rented through vacation rentals by owner (vrbo.com) and we could not rent the resort chairs and umbrella because we did not rent through the resort itself. No biggy the room had the chair and umb for us plus the resort guys pick up at 5pm and there is still plenty of sun left. Not knocking those chairs – I love them but there are alternatives…anyway, thats how we got the scoop.

Thanks MaryCayG…that is very helpful information. We have only been to Destin 3x’s and have always stayed at a resort that did the setup right on the water. I think I should invest in my own chair and umbrella since we have small children I like to sit and be right on the water so I can watch them closer. I’m just praying for no oil. We are to arrive in Destin on July 7th. Thanks again Mike for your hard work and updates!!

I am traveling to Sandestin next week for vacation and I read on a website that there weren’t any sea shells on the beach at Sandestin – is that true?

  13. Deena says:

Thanks Mike! Where could I take my kids that would be nearby to find seashells?

  14. PGourley says:

Beachbum, SanDestin is beautiful and yes you can still enjoy the beach and the water sitting a little back. I personally like this because you can relax without people stepping around you.

  15. PGourley says:

Mike, thanks for the site updates. I will be there with the family in August. I hope all is still oil free then.

  16. I’m going golfing! It was way to nice out to be in the office all afternoon.
